<image:caption>102 cane toads were introduced to Australia in 1935 as a way to get rid of cane beetles. It turned out they loved the climate and started breeding rapidly. There are now more than 1.5 billion of them across the country with a large concentration in tropical states like Queensland. As a way of protecting themselves, Cane toads secrete a toxin that when consumed by dogs can make them act like they're on drugs. <image:title>Work - Lost Miners: The tragic toll of FIFO work</image:title>
<image:caption>Every day, thousands of Australians fly in and out of remote mining sites to work in one of the country’s most profitable industries. With high wages and companies covering the cost of flights, accommodation and food, it’s a job that for many is a too good job to turn down. But there’s a dark side to FIFO work, and it is costing lives. <image:title>Work - Ice Towns</image:title>
<image:caption>The rise of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as ice, is devastating regional Victoria, Australia. Ice is highly addictive, it's relatively cheap and a lot of it is produced right here in Australia. It is a drug that is most often associated with bigger cities but unbeknown to many, is rapidly infiltrating smaller towns such as Horsham and Shepparton and destroying many families and communities. My role on the documentary was to lead the motion design and graphic treatment throughout, displaying vital information to support the story & figures to highlight important points to viewers. The creative concept behind the motion design was to mimic the hallucinatory effects of the drug within the graphics to keep within the dark tone of the documentary. By using a glitch / duplicated effect to bring on the information throughout, the idea was to make the graphics work seamlessly with the footage, rather than have the graphics feel separate to the final edit. <image:caption>BlaBlaCar “How It Works” explainer video was an important asset used with the growing expansion of BlaBlaCar in 22 countries by 2016. The video was developed as an introductory tool to new users unfamiliar with BlaBlaCar - explaining the service and how it works in a simple and easy-to-follow tone. My role as creative manager was to manage the video production - from script, storyboard, design, motion & final edit. Once completed, I also managed the global roll out of the video across 22 countries which included: working with product teams for video application across all desktop websites, working with local marketing teams to manage the transcreation & voiceover recording process as well as managing a team of freelancers to adapt and scale the video to 22 countries. Over 5 months, the How it Works video was delivered and live in every BlaBlaCar market and additionally used as a marketing tool on online social media channels.
